Dr. Cohen Reflects on Cosmetic Surgery Advancements in Cosmetic Town Journal
Minimally invasive cosmetic procedures have become increasingly common among patients wanting to enhance their appearance. As the medical specialty has continued to evolve with state-of-the-art technologies, men and women are able to achieve noticeable results without the invasiveness or recovery time associated with traditional surgeries. Dr. Andrew Cohen was interviewed by Cosmetic Town Journal to provide his perspective on how these technologies are changing the area of cosmetic surgery.
In the article, the author highlights three areas, in particular, that have helped transform cosmetic surgery: social media, laser devices, and microsurgery. While social media platforms have influenced how people view cosmetic surgery—such as learning about procedures and being inspired to get treatments to enhance their look—innovations like laser technology and microsurgery techniques have made it possible to get results with a shorter recovery and less scarring.
When asked if there are any limitations to using these new technologies, Dr. Cohen says there are machines available for a wide range of needs, from cold- or heat-based fat removal to advanced lasers for removing red or brown spots and tattoos. “‘It has become limitless.’” He recognizes that it can be difficult for people to stay up to date on these advancements, which is why he urges people to seek board-certified plastic surgeons who are experienced in the treatment the patient is interested in. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Cohen says he stays at the forefront of the latest innovations by regularly reading medical journals and participating in plastic surgery conferences.
In addition to seeking a surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Cohen encourages patients to view before-and-after pictures of what the procedure can accomplish, as well as make sure they are informed about the risks and benefits. While these minimally invasive treatment options can provide beautiful results, he says many non-surgical solutions do not compare with what a surgical procedure can provide. “‘By far, surgery still gives the best long-term and predictable results in comparison to non-surgical technology.”
