What Does “Board Certified” Really Mean?

FYI: Just because a doctor is “board certified” it does not necessarily mean they are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). In many states, a licensed physician from any medical field can perform cosmetic procedures without being board certified in plastic surgery. When choosing a plastic surgeon, make sure they are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, which is the only board that certifies physicians in plastic surgery of the face and all areas of the body.
